Ironing pile never ending? It could be time to invest in a rotary iron

Rotary irons can provide the perfect solution for a faster and more efficient way of processing your laundry. To help you get to grips with them, we’ve rounded up some of our top tips, including how you can speed up your ironing routine and what to do to achieve wrinkle-free results every time.

Make sure you’re using the right equipment

Sort your laundry before using your rotary iron

Before starting your ironing, we recommend sorting your laundry into groups based on its linen type. This is because you will likely be washing a variety of linens, such as 100% cotton, polyester and polycotton mixes, which all react differently to heat. For instance, polyester reacts to high temperatures, causing it to melt, so it’s best to avoid ironing this and some polycotton mixes above 140 degrees.

Precondition your laundry before ironing

For the best results, we recommend pre-conditioning your laundry beforehand – making sure it’s not too wet and not too dry to minimise damage to the fabric and your ironer.

Pre-conditioning your laundry can be done by using a tumble dryer with an ideal moisture level of between 15-25%. You can easily achieve this with a moisture-controlled dryer; however, if you’re using a manual machine, you will need to play around with the heat and time to get the correct setting.

Take care when using your iron

When using your rotary iron, we recommend a couple of tips to help you get the best results and maintain the operating life of your equipment.

• When starting up, set the temperature and roller speed based on the linen type you will be processing.
• Always remember to allow the ironer to cool down when changing linen types to avoid damage to the items you’re ironing and the ironer itself.
• Make use of the full length of the ironer when processing laundry through. This will avoid pitting the roller whilst also making the process more efficient.
