Solar panels on roof of WASHCO's headquarters in Newbury

Another step towards sustainability

One of our most important commitments is to become a more sustainable business and minimise our impact on the environment.

We operate in an industry where energy consumption is high, but there’s a lot we can change to reduce our emissions.

As we work towards assessing our baseline consumption, we are proud to say that we have engaged in a series of initiatives, and we are actively developing a strong reduction plan that will benefit WASHCO and its partners.

As part of achieving ISO14001 accreditation, which underpins our environmental strategy, our focus has been to implement effective energy-saving measures. This included simple initiatives such as switching to a provider that supplies zero-carbon, 100% renewable electricity, or optimising lighting through installing LED and motion-sensor lighting across our locations.

Our most significant step yet is the commissioning of a Solar PV system at our Newbury headquarters, which enables us to move certain high consumption operations to the times of highest solar yield, therefore reducing the need for power from the national grid. This means our electric vehicle fleet can be charged with truly sustainable energy.

Our engagement towards reducing our direct emissions (scope 1) reaches beyond WASHCO as it benefits our partners up and down the supply chain, and contributes to lowering their own carbon footprint (scope 3).

You can find our emissions report which has been published on the Carbon Database Initiative (CaDI) website : WASHCO LTD – Emissions Report
